My name is James Burnett, I live in a log cabin in Augusta County, Virginia. I raise chickens. I grow food. And I have never once backed down from a fight worth having.
I am a follower of Christ. A husband to the love of my life and a father to amazing daughters. For nearly 27 years I have called Virginia home and I currently live in a log cabin in Augusta County.
Today I work as a software engineer with deep experience in telecom, government, and military and defense sectors. I build things and I solve problems. When I’m not at work, I am learning the forgotten art of self-sufficiency: growing gardens, raising chickens, and building a life with my own two hands.
I believe in the Constitution, not as a suggestion, not as a living document to be reinterpreted by those in power, but as it is written. When the state of Virginia moved to ban the possession of firearms that citizens are constitutionally entitled to own, I didn’t just speak up, I organized. I rallied over 2,800 of my fellow county citizens behind a Second Amendment sanctuary resolution and we won. We held the line and that battle was won.
But peace doesn’t last for ever. That same fighting spirit continued a few years later when my own county, conservative as it is, threatened to jail me for keeping four hens for eggs on rural Virginia land. I didn’t back down. I fought. I drafted a new ordinance and I got it passed. Freedom prevailed once again.
I am an Iraq War Veteran, having served as a 31C Radio Operator deploying to Iraq in 2008 and 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. War is sometimes a necessary evil but I do not wish it upon any fellow human. But, now it seems we are fighting war at home, where people are trying to take away our freedom and trying to diminish our peace. I only wish that if battles for those freedoms must be fought on our own soil, I pray they happen in my lifetime, so my children never have to fight them in theirs.
I will always stand for those who cannot stand for themselves. I will fight evil. I will fight corruption. And I will never make peace with tyranny.
